Abstract

The main goal of anodizing is increasing the thickness of the existing oxide layer on substrates surface and making this layer a durable and corrosion resistant one. In this paper anodizing process was done in a 1 molar sulfuric acid with a pH of 1 as electrolyte and using titanium substrates of 20101 mm in dimensions as anode under voltages of 3, 6, 9 and 21 volts, current density of 3 amperes with an electrolyte temperature of 60 in 30 seconds. Phase, structural and morphological of the samples were evaluated using grazing incidence X-ray diffraction (GIXRD), Filed emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) and Atomic force microscopy (AFM). Results show that the different applied voltages led to coatings with different colors, and increasing the anodizing voltage from 3 to 9 volt cause to enhanced homogeneity and uniformity of titania layer, and also the thickness of titania layer, which is related to the rate of oxide growth, increased as a function of anodizing voltage.
