The present paper aims to read Anita Desai’s Fasting, Feasting (1999) through the lens of Erin James’ econarratological approach. More specifically, this research focuses on contextual and cognitive narratologies to mirror real-world cultural context of the novel. Against this background, by applying the “immersive power” of the novel’s storyworld and “focalization technique”, readers experience virtual environment from the perspective of the main characters. Thus interpreters experience the novel’s world according to “alternative environmental imagination” informed by local experiences of space, predicted on addressing the loss of indigenous habitats and cultures.
