Abstract

Bioretention beds are integral components of sustainable urban stormwater management, and the selection of appropriate plant species is crucial for their effectiveness. Purpose: This study assesses the suitability of Vetiver grass (Chrysopogon zizanioides) for use in bioretention beds across various regions in Iran. The research explores the environmental adaptability, growth performance, and filtration capabilities of Vetiver grass in different soil types and climatic conditions prevalent in the country. Research Methods: Field trials and laboratory experiments were conducted to evaluate growth rates, nutrient uptake, and water retention properties. Findings: The findings indicate that Vetiver grass exhibits excellent tolerance to diverse environmental stressors, including drought, salinity, and waterlogging, making it a viable option for enhancing bioretention systems. Furthermore, its extensive root system significantly contributes to soil stabilization and pollutant filtration, suggesting that Vetiver gra
