In the present work, the laser surface treatment conducted using a Fiber and Nd:YAG lasers (that are industrial lasers) to evaluate the micro-hardness behavior of 316L stainless steel. Based on trends of micro-hardness, the process variables parameters for Fiber laser were Focal plane position (80-100mm) and scanning speed (1-5 mm/s) whereas the laser power was considered as constant factor (500W). Also, in Nd:YAG laser the scanning speed (2-2.7 mm/s), Focal plane position (34-40) and laser power (140-150 W) were input parameters. Results show that the Fiber and Nd:YAG laser not suitable for 316L laser surface treatment. By decreasing the scanning speed, heat input increase and lead to surface melting.
