Abstract

The glass transition of xSb–(60 - x)V2O5–40TeO2 glasses with 0\x\15 (in mol%) at different heating rates (u = 3–12 K/min) has been studied using differential scanning calorimetry. The glass transition temperature (Tg) and crystallization temperature (Tcr) of these glasses have been determined. The effects of the heating rate and the Sb content on Tg have been discussed. It has been observed that the transition region shifts to higher temperatures when the measuring time is reduced. The compositional dependence of Tg has been determined and so an empirical equation has been deduced relating the glass transition temperature with the Sb concentration. Also, the value of glass-forming tendency has been studied for the present glasses.
