The antibacterial polymeric nanofibers based on polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) nano-fibers can be a promising candidate for biomedical applications. Herein, Ag nanoparticles embedded in polyvinyl alcohol (Ag/PVA) nano-fibers have been synthesized via electro-spinning technique using ex-situ generation. For the production of Ag nanoparticles (NPs), starch was used as a surface-active agent. The Rietveld refinement confirmed a face-centered cubic (FCC) structure without any impurity peaks for synthesized Ag NPs. The XRD pattern of Ag/PVA determined the complexity between Ag nanoparticles and electro-spinning PVA nano-fibers. The FE-SEM images revealed that the Ag NPs are dispersed in the PVA nano-fiber matrix. The antibacterial activity of Ag/PVA nano-fiber for inhibition of several groups of bacteria which are commonly found in hospital environments were investigated. Results indicated that the hybrid materials have a strong bactericidal effect against Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Escherichia coli bacteria.
