Abstract

In this paper, values of the mutual diffusion coefficient D, thermal diffusion coefficient DT , and the Soret coefficient ST for the binary systems containing methyl phenyl ketone (MPK) and 2-alkanol (2-propanol, 2-butanol, and 2-pentanol) at 303.15 K to 323.15 K were calculated to investigate the mass and heat transfer behavior. The Soret coefficient ST of methyl phenyl ketone in all binary fluids was positive and indicated that this molecule is enriched in the cold regions of liquids. The governing nature of molecular interactions in binary mixtures was discussed considering the above parameters. An increase in the alkyl chain of alcohol decreases the mutual and thermal diffusion coefficients while it increases the Soret coefficient. Furthermore, the mutual and thermal diffusion coefficients increase with temperature. Obtained results demonstrate that increasing the chain length of alcohol reduces its tendency to interact with ketone molecules
